Alen Space has completed and delivered ETRISat, a 6U CubeSat manufactured at its facility in Nigran, Spain, for the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in South Korea. The spacecraft is now in South Korea and will be launched aboard a Nuri (KSLV-II) rocket from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute's Naro Space Center. Launch is scheduled for the coming days.

The main mission of ETRISat is to perform in-orbit demonstration of communications technologies as part of ETRI's ongoing work on satellite and maritime communication networks. During its mission, ETRISat will relay signals from ocean buoys that collect oceanographic data such as seawater temperature and wave height. These signals will be transmitted to ground stations to assess their performance for real-time monitoring of ocean and climate conditions.

The CubeSat carries a payload based on TREVO, Alen Space's software-defined radio hardware. Two applications will operate on the SDR: ETRI's application for validating advanced communications solutions, and Alen Space's application for transmitting Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals used in maritime traffic management. This architecture allows for custom solutions to be deployed on a flight-proven platform.

Alen Space executed the project as a turnkey mission, covering all stages including design, assembly, integration, verification, mission control software implementation, and initial in-orbit operations. The company adapted the project to ETRI's requirements and relied on its prior mission experience to accelerate the timeline.

Guillermo Lamelas, CEO of Alen Space, said, "Working so closely with an institution like ETRI reinforces Alen Space's international position as a reliable technological partner for highly innovative and demanding projects. South Korea is a global benchmark in technological innovation, and we hope that ETRISat will be the first step in a long-term collaboration."

The launch will be the fourth flight of the Nuri rocket and includes ETRISat among 12 other satellites. It is the first Nuri launch since the founding of the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) in 2024.
