At the 2025 COMPUTEX MOEA TECH HUB, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) unveiled its latest advancements in collaboration with MediaTek and Chunghwa Telecom. Together, they introduced a cutting-edge B5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) base station system capable of direct-to-cell satellite connectivity via software upgrades. This technology, successfully tested across multi-orbit satellite communication trials, is expected to expand global communication reach, especially in remote and offshore areas, and captured international attention at this year's MWC Barcelona.

Pang-An Ting, ITRI Vice President and General Director of Information and Communications Research Laboratories, emphasized the holistic integration of AI and telecommunications: "AI decision-making acts as the brain, logistics robots as the sensory system, NTN communications as the nervous system, and energy management systems as the circulatory system." He stressed that integrating these four systems is vital for unlocking the full potential of smart technologies.

ITRI's showcase also highlighted innovations in five key areas: AI services, immersive experiences, AI for manufacturing, green energy, and next-generation communications. The B5G NTN base station system is poised to advance Taiwan's NTN capabilities and global standards, offering direct-to-cell satellite connectivity via software upgrades. Other featured technologies included an AI medical logistics robot, which enhances hospital logistics using vision and context awareness; AI 3D modeling via smartphone, enabling fast, photorealistic 3D model creation; a Transparent Display Open System compliant with OpenXR to support multi-brand devices; and the AI-driven POXA Energy Management System, which streamlines energy storage and aims to become a spinoff company by the end of 2025.
