Cubic Telecom, a global leader in software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions, has announced a partnership with Skylo Technologies, a pioneer in non-terrestrial network (NTN) communications. This collaboration will integrate Skylo's satellite network into Cubic's connectivity platform, expanding its capabilities to include satellite-based global coverage.
The partnership builds on Cubic Telecom's robust ecosystem, which connects over 21 million vehicles in 190+ countries. Leveraging standards-based NB-NTN chipsets and a streamlined messaging protocol, the combined solution ensures uninterrupted communication across cellular and satellite networks. Key vehicle functions, such as location tracking, remote diagnostics, vehicle unlocking, and emergency communications, will benefit from this enhanced reliability and coverage.
Emergency communications are a primary focus of the collaboration. The satellite-enabled network ensures dependable communication in critical situations, offering real-time support to emergency response teams and improving disaster relief efforts.
Barry Napier, CEO of Cubic Telecom, highlighted the collaboration's significance: "By integrating Skylo's NTN capabilities with our software-defined vehicle solutions, we are elevating critical vehicle communications to new heights of energy efficiency, smart technology integration and robust security. This collaboration allows us to optimise energy usage through intelligent network management, harness cutting-edge smart technologies for seamless connectivity and reinforce security measures to protect data and communications. This will underscore our commitment to innovation, safety and sustainability, ensuring our customers can rely on secure connectivity whether on the road or in remote areas - especially during emergency situations."
Parthsarathi Trivedi, Co-Founder and CEO of Skylo, emphasized the benefits for automotive manufacturers: "Skylo's partnership with Cubic is a key enabler for OEMs to seamlessly bridge satellite and cellular networks for remote vehicle monitoring and control, emergency messaging, and roadside assistance in a cost-efficient way, with service that's live and available today. Operating with a standards-based solution provides automotive OEMs the predictability and reliability they need as they integrate satellite connectivity in their multi-year product roadmap."
Skylo's network operates using licensed Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) spectrum within existing global satellite frequency bands. This setup ensures comprehensive rural and remote coverage while avoiding interference with cellular networks. The MSS spectrum overlay allows seamless infill for cellular coverage gaps without requiring exclusion zones, enhancing connectivity in traditionally underserved areas.
