Space Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Space ISAC) has announced the establishment of its first international Global Hub in Australia. This initiative aims to expand collaboration among Space ISAC members in the region, foster cooperation, and strengthen the sharing of "all threats, all hazards" information to enhance the security of Australian space missions and critical infrastructure.
The Space ISAC Australia Global Hub will focus on addressing cybersecurity challenges in space operations and facilitating the exchange of Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI). The hub will also engage with Australia's broader space, cyber, and intelligence communities to support the organization's mission and global objectives. This step aligns with Space ISAC's goal of establishing a worldwide network of hubs to enhance the resilience of the space sector.
Byron Riessen, a Partner at Deloitte and a leader in its space sector advisory practice, has been named the primary representative for the Australia Global Hub on the Space ISAC Board of Directors. Riessen brings 30 years of experience in technology and space, advising across the space ecosystem, including startups, defense, academia, and industry. His work includes leadership of the GRAVITY Challenge, Deloitte's global space and geospatial tech accelerator program.
Riessen emphasized the importance of space in various sectors, stating, "There's almost no sector not enabled by satellite and space systems... Deloitte is delighted to support the establishment of the Space ISAC's Australian Global Hub as it provides an opportunity for the Australian space ecosystem to work alongside global stakeholders in addressing these types of issues, to inform emerging new space cyber standards and to enter global supply chains."
Erin Miller, Executive Director of Space ISAC, commented on the significance of the announcement, saying, "Designating Australia as a Global Hub for the Space ISAC propels threat sharing and operational collaboration to a new moment where collective defense means aligning public and private space sectors globally to improve the overall resilience of the space industry." She added that this is the beginning of a larger international expansion effort.
South Australia has been designated as the base for the Australian Global Hub. Matt Opie, Chief Executive of Defence SA, welcomed the development, stating, "Partnerships between industry, government and academia will be critical in addressing the pressing challenges in space and cyber. Being part of the Space ISAC is an important step that will drive global cooperation and coordination to support a safe and secure future for Australian space missions and services."
Deloitte, a founding member of Space ISAC, sees this milestone as an opportunity to further enhance global space collaboration.
Space ISAC invites Australian organizations to join its community to access a network of experts and resources dedicated to improving the security and resilience of the space industry.
Founded in 2019, Space ISAC operates from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and provides services such as threat response, mitigation, and resilience. It collaborates with members and partners worldwide, including key government agencies and industry leaders such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Microsoft, and others, to protect global space assets.
