Space is in business
As the space industry evolves, the low Earth orbit and lunar economies are poised for significant growth, driven by advancements in technology, an increasing demand for space-based services and supportive policies. Emerging space players, including new commercial actors and space agencies from around the world, are playing a crucial role in shaping these markets.
ESA has started several initiatives with European industry to develop commercial services, such as a low Earth orbit cargo return service, for which ESA signed two contracts with European industry earlier this year. The Moonlight initiative aims to establish Europe’s first dedicated satellite constellation for lunar communications and navigation, paving the way for sustainable lunar exploration.
