On September 27, 2024, the U.S. Space Force's (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC), Program Executive Officer (PEO) for Military Communications (MilComm) and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT), officially certified the Military GPS User Equipment (MGUE) Increment 1 (Inc 1) Aviation/Maritime GPS Receiver Card for the Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer (DDG). This milestone marked the completion of the MGUE Inc 1 Acquisition Program Baseline (APB).

The MGUE Inc 1 program, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Navy (USN), successfully integrated its aviation/maritime GPS receiver into the Navy's GPS-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Service (GPNTS) system. This integration process included embedding GPNTS into a DDG, followed by a comprehensive testing phase and the resolution of all Category I Deficiency Reports identified during testing.

Following these successful steps, the PEO certified the MGUE Inc 1 receiver for USN field testing. USSF Col. Matt Spencer, Commander and Senior Material Leader of PNT Systems Delta at SSC, remarked, "Congratulations to the joint Government and industry team on achieving and completing this huge milestone. This APB milestone marks a critical step towards the operational fielding of the MGUE Inc 1 receiver in the maritime domain to counter the ever-growing threat from adversaries to deny or exploit our PNT capabilities, a keystone to our modern warfighting capability."

This certification provides an essential solution to address challenges related to Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) with legacy SAASM-based GPS receivers, which are increasingly difficult to procure. Reaching this milestone signifies progress in sustaining and enhancing a robust PNT capability for military operations.

The MGUE Inc 1 program focuses on modernizing M-Code circuit card assemblies to deliver more secure GPS functionalities, incorporating advanced anti-jam, anti-spoof, and anti-tamper capabilities. The program's development and integration efforts continue to advance, aiming to strengthen military GPS technology.
