Demand is rising sharply within the space sector for MSP's advanced CNC manufacturing technology, which ensures precise, error-free production of parts for rockets, satellites, and launch equipment. As the space industry projects a worth of $1.8 trillion by 2035, manufacturers are under pressure to keep pace with complex requirements, supply chain challenges, and stringent quality standards.
MSP, an expert in CNC metrology, is uniquely positioned to support this growth by offering technology that eliminates calibration errors across probe, machine, and alignment processes, producing highly accurate parts in a single try. Initially designed for aerospace and later adopted by the Formula 1 industry, MSP's technology has now become essential for both established companies and start-ups aiming to supply space components.
Distinct from other solutions, MSP's system provides fully automated, end-to-end metrology that adapts to existing manufacturing setups without requiring costly overhauls. This adaptability has been pivotal for its acceptance in the space industry, as manufacturers strive to meet the sector's rigorous demands for precision. Among the companies utilizing MSP's technology are Hadrian, an autonomous manufacturing firm in California, and Orbex, a Scottish orbital launch service provider.
"Using traditional and, often manual, manufacturing methods to machine composite or additive space components is not viable due to the high value nature of parts and importance of machining them right-first time. Manual manufacturing methods cannot guarantee an error-free production process which increases the likelihood of scrap," said Aidan Wigham, MSP's Technical Account Manager.
Wigham added, "Processes must also be flexible as, often, only a few parts of a version are produced, before they are then redeveloped, so spending huge amounts on bespoke systems or tooling to ensure quality isn't feasible. Using MSP products, manufacturers could, if they wanted to, produce a different part each time, to the same level of quality, without the need for an expensive customised solution per component."
"Manufacturers particularly enjoy the fact our products don't disrupt their existing manufacturing processes - they automate and enhance certain setup processes to increase accuracy, efficiency and provide a transparent understanding of each step of the manufacturing process," Wigham explained.
As the space industry's expansion accelerates, MSP's automated solution offers a pathway to sustainable and scalable production, ensuring that even more manufacturers can meet the exacting standards of this rapidly evolving market.
