Samsonite, a global leader in premium travel gear, has collaborated with aerospace pioneers Sent Into Space to send its Proxis suitcase to the edge of space, showcasing an impressive leap in travel innovation. The launch, which occurred near Las Vegas, Nevada, demonstrated the exceptional durability and design of the Proxis, the brand's lightest suitcase to date, which returned from its space mission without a scratch.

The Proxis suitcase, weighing just 4.6 lbs, features Samsonite's Roxkin outer shell, known for its strength and lightweight qualities. This material was key to the suitcase's selection for this unique experiment, aimed at pushing the boundaries of travel technology.

"At Samsonite, innovation is in our DNA," said Nicole Adriance, Senior Director of Brand Marketing. "Sending Proxis into space is a bold testament to our century-long commitment to durability and design. This experiment with 'Sent Into Space' demonstrates how our case delivers performance under the most challenging conditions, withstanding not only the rigors of Earthbound travel but also the ultimate test - space - exemplifying the remarkable balance we've achieved between lightweight design and rugged durability, setting a new standard in the luggage industry."

The suitcase ascended to over 130,000 feet, lifted by a stratospheric balloon utilizing renewable hydrogen gas. The specialized spacecraft, designed by Sent Into Space engineers, included a flight computer, satellite and radio communication systems, and 360 and 4K cameras to track and document the mission. Upon re-entry, a parachute system ensured a controlled descent, allowing the Proxis to land flawlessly, reinforcing the strength of Samsonite's Roxkin shell.

"The Proxis was a perfect passenger for our flight," said Dr. Chris Rose, Head of Projects at Sent Into Space. "Incredibly robust, even in the freezing vacuum of space where the temperature drops below -85 F, but light enough to meet our stringent weight requirements - I'd love to take one on every spaceflight!"

The successful space journey of Proxis underscores Samsonite's dedication to developing resilient and high-performance travel gear, proving its capability to endure even the most extreme environments.
