Starfighters Space Inc, based at Kennedy Space Center and known for operating the only commercial fleet capable of sustained MACH 2+ speeds and mid-air payload launches, has announced the expansion of its launch capabilities to include a second facility at the Midland, Texas Spaceport.
Recent key developments include; The Midland Spaceport will become the home for Starfighters' hypersonic testing initiatives and new facility for Starfighter at Midland.
The decision to establish a second launch site in Midland is part of an economic development agreement with the Midland Development Corporation (MDC). The unique location of the Midland International Air and Space Port, which is co-located with an FAA Part 139 commercial airport, provides Starfighters access to key airport resources and services.
CEO Rick Svetkoff of Starfighters Space remarked, "At the end of the day, it is the team that makes the mission successful. MDC truly understood the power and resiliency of us securing multiple launch facilities and worked with us in bringing the project to life."
Midland is set to play a key role in what Svetkoff describes as a "Hypersonic Test Corridor." This corridor will stretch from Midland to Mojave and Vandenberg Space Ports, enhancing hypersonic research. Starfighters Space and MDC are actively pursuing FAA certification to fully establish this corridor.
"As a strategic southwestern hub, Midland will enable our aircraft to reach these various military operating areas much quicker and in a more cost-effective manner," added Svetkoff.
Beyond hypersonic research, Starfighters Space will also leverage Midland for R and D in commercial and defense sectors, and for its StarLaunch program, a supersonic space delivery system being developed with GE Aeronautics. As part of the expansion, the company plans to invest heavily in capital assets and equipment at the Midland facility by 2027 and aims to create 23 new full-time jobs by 2033.
MDC Chairman Lourcey Sams commented, "We are honored to welcome Starfighters Space to Midland. Their decision to expand here highlights Midland's growing reputation as a hub for aerospace innovation. We look forward to the positive impact Starfighters Space will have on our community."
Sams further emphasized, "The expansion also serves to highlight Midland's increasing prominence in the aerospace sector, reinforcing its position as a leading destination for high-tech industries."
