Aalyria, a company specializing in ultra-fast and secure directional mesh networks, has been selected by NASA to lead a study and demonstration of its Network Orchestration and Management System (NOMS). This project aims to show how Aalyria's Spacetime platform can dynamically manage NASA's Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) network, focusing on supporting the Near Space Network (NSN) and creating essential connections with commercial providers.
The contract, awarded under NASA's NextSTEP-2 program, will see Aalyria conducting systems integration and requirements analysis to determine any new features or API adjustments needed for Spacetime. The study will explore how the platform can optimize NASA's space networks as they integrate more commercial services, while still meeting mission requirements. Aalyria plans to deploy a dedicated instance of Spacetime, which will autonomously manage real-time interconnections across various networks, ensuring robust, secure communication for NASA's missions. This effort will include the platform's ability to task steerable antennas and laser communication terminals, modify network configurations, and incorporate real-time environmental data for optimal performance.
"NASA's goals for the future SCaN program require orchestrating dynamic interconnections between NASA mission spacecraft and their government and commercial service providers," said Brian Barritt, CTO of Aalyria. "Spacetime is designed to facilitate that orchestration, creating adaptive, real-time connectivity across different platforms and constellations. We're excited to show how Spacetime can enable NASA to unify its Near Space Network with commercial capabilities, ensuring mission resilience, flexibility, and security across a complex ecosystem of networks."
The AI-powered orchestration capabilities of the Spacetime platform allow it to determine optimal network configurations from numerous possibilities, adjusting in real-time as conditions evolve. The upcoming demonstration will validate Spacetime's capacity to manage and optimize network connectivity for both commercial and governmental assets, supporting in-space relays, operations related to NASA's Artemis program, and future missions.
