The Space Test Program (STP) office has released the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Space Test Experiments Platform (STEP) 2.0 contract. This move enables STP to secure complete solutions for the U.S. Space Force's Science and Technology (S and T) experiments.
"The DoD Space Test Program is looking to leverage all the successes from industry to provide proven spacecraft to host the DoD's next generation of space technologies." said Lt. Col. Brian Shimek, STP director.
STEP 2.0 will create a 10-year multi-award Indefinite Delivery / Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract to address the current spacecraft procurement gap within STP. The first Delivery Order (DO) is expected to start in September 2024. The RFP was released on May 15, with proposals due by mid-June and an expected award by the end of July 2024. The DoD Space Test Program (STP) is a key component of national security, providing mission design, spacecraft acquisition, integration, launch, and operations support to facilitate experimental payload access to space. Established in 1965, STP has executed over 300 missions and continues to advance scientific knowledge and capability in the space domain.
Space Systems Command is the U.S. Space Force's field command responsible for acquiring, developing, and delivering resilient capabilities and advanced technologies to protect the nation's strategic advantage in space. SSC manages a $15.6 billion space acquisition budget for the Department of Defense and partners with joint forces, industry, government agencies, academic and allied organizations to accelerate innovation and counter emerging threats. "Our actions today are making the world a better space for tomorrow."
