L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:LHX) has secured the fifth-year option of the Maintenance Of Space Situational Awareness Integrated Capabilities (MOSSAIC) program. This contract, valued at up to $187 million, is awarded by the U.S. Space Force to continue advancing the maintenance and modernization of essential space infrastructure. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the Space Force's core capability of space domain awareness. MOSSAIC's operations, which span across military space surveillance and command centers in Colorado, California, and Virginia, include the detection, tracking, and identification of deep space objects. These efforts provide vital space surveillance information to military, civil, and commercial entities.
Under the fifth option year, L3Harris will enhance and modify systems within the MOSSAIC program, including the development of sophisticated sensor metadata that aids in adopting a dynamic and responsive tasking approach essential for tactical space domain awareness.
"The MOSSAIC program is key in providing domain awareness for our warfighters," stated Ed Zoiss, President of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris. "We are committed to continuing our efforts in this program to support the U.S. Space Force in ensuring the safety, security, and sustainability of the space domain."
The MOSSAIC program, with a potential total contract value of up to $1.2 billion over 10 years, expands on a previous $23 million contract awarded to L3Harris in February 2020. This earlier award involved the maintenance and enhancement of radar and optical sensors, along with command and control systems, to deliver precise and timely space domain awareness data. The subsequent annual options have allowed L3Harris to maintain and improve space domain ground systems critical for addressing emerging threats.
