GMV, a pivotal entity in aerospace innovation, marked its presence at a European Space Agency (ESA) workshop dedicated to reusable hypersonic vehicles, hosted at the European Astronaut Center (EAC) in Cologne, Germany, earlier this month. The workshop aimed to foster collaboration between the aviation industry and research centers, focusing on the development of hypersonic crafts and their aviation applications.
Highlighting the event, GMV showcased its advancements in avionics technology encompassing both hardware and software, emphasizing the significance of the guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) subsystem. The challenges of integrating such sophisticated systems into hypersonic crafts were discussed, alongside GMV's expertise in crafting avionics equipment like GPS receptors and power units tailored for these vehicles.
Francesco Pace, representing GMV's Robotics and EST Space Flight Segment Unit, elucidated on the company's contributions and insights gained from developing hypersonic vehicles for ESA and the commercial aviation sector. Mariella Graziano, charged with business strategy and development for EST space system science, exploration, and transportation, underscored the strategic importance of hypersonic technology in propelling the future of space exploration, whether for robotic or crewed missions.
The workshop served as a conduit for identifying pivotal technologies and methodologies crucial for the transportation and reentry phases of spacecraft, aligned with ESA's human exploration endeavors. GMV has established a commendable track record in guidance, navigation, control systems, and avionics through its involvement in significant missions like IXV, Space Rider, Hera, PROBA3, and launcher projects including VEGA, MIURA-1, and THEMIS.
