On Thursday afternoon, the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation announced the successful launch of a Long March 2D carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. This launch marked the deployment of the second batch of Yunhai 2-series satellites into orbit, further bolstering China's capabilities in atmospheric monitoring and space environment observation.
The satellites, developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, are multifunctional, with responsibilities ranging from atmospheric condition surveillance to space environment monitoring. These satellites will also contribute to disaster prevention and mitigation initiatives and support a range of scientific experiments.
The Long March 2D rocket, a creation of the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, is powered by liquid propellants. It boasts a liftoff thrust of 300 metric tons and is designed to deliver 1.3-ton payloads to sun-synchronous orbits at an altitude of 700 kilometers.
This latest mission underscores China's active engagement in space exploration and satellite deployment, representing the 13th rocket launch of the year and the 513th flight undertaken by the Long March rocket series, China's principal launch vehicle array.
