In a significant move to enhance spaceflight safety and education, Kayhan Space has announced the launch of its Pathfinder Classroom, a pioneering space traffic coordination (STC) platform. Designed for university space programs, this platform enables autonomous assessment of satellite conjunctions and collision avoidance, addressing the urgent need for space situational awareness in the face of increasing orbital congestion.

Historically, university-led space missions have overlooked space situational awareness solutions due to high costs, leaving them vulnerable in crowded orbits. Pathfinder Classroom offers a solution by providing state-of-the-art space traffic management services-similar to those used by industry leaders-at an affordable subscription rate. This initiative aims to prioritize and reduce the cost barrier to space safety for academic institutions globally.

The platform grants universities the capability to automatically evaluate the safety and collision risk of their CubeSat missions, facilitating proactive collision avoidance strategies. Siamak Hesar, Co-Founder and CEO of Kayhan Space, emphasized the platform's role in promoting space safety. "Pathfinder Classroom is designed to make advanced space traffic management accessible to the future leaders of the space industry, ensuring safer space operations for all," Hesar said.

Drawing on his experiences as an Astronautics Engineering student at the University of Southern California, Hesar highlighted the critical importance of situational awareness in space. The development of Pathfinder Classroom was a collaborative effort with input from commercial and government space entities, underscoring the industry-wide demand for enhanced space traffic coordination capabilities among academic space programs.

David Barnhart, Director of the University of Southern California Space Engineering Research Center, lauded Kayhan Space's contribution. "The Pathfinder platform empowers our students with the tools necessary for conducting safe satellite missions in dense orbital regions, mirroring the software used by major space mission operators," Barnhart stated. He also noted the educational benefits of the service, which familiarizes students with essential space safety practices.

Pathfinder Classroom integrates diverse space object data, employs advanced orbit prediction algorithms, and provides timely, actionable threat notifications and maneuver suggestions, streamlining the process of space traffic management for educational institutions.
