Ellipspace, a pioneering Beijing-based satellite firm, is on track to create a comprehensive satellite network, dubbed Starpool, aimed at enhancing capabilities across various sectors, including emergency services and infrastructure monitoring. The network, poised for completion in 2027, will comprise over 100 satellites, significantly advancing global satellite services.

Di Fengping, Ellipspace's president and a distinguished spacecraft scientist, shared with China Daily the ambitious roadmap for Starpool's deployment. "Our plan for this year includes the launch of eight satellites, further building upon our initial two satellites deployed last December. This expansion is contingent on our collaboration with rocket and other contractors to adhere to our timeline," Di detailed.

Starpool's satellites, each weighing approximately 300 kilograms and with a seven-year operational lifespan, promise to revolutionize data delivery with a four-hour turnaround. Key innovations include a unique orbital position control system and solar arrays that ensure continuous power, enabling around-the-clock operation of its remote sensing cameras.

Remote sensing technology underpins Starpool's capabilities, allowing for the detailed observation and analysis of terrestrial and maritime environments by measuring emitted and reflected radiation. This technology is critical for accurate data provision, a service emphasized by Ellipspace's chairman, Zhang Tao, also a renowned spacecraft scientist. Zhang highlighted the network's unique integration of communication, remote sensing, and positioning functions, enabling unprecedented responsiveness in satellite operations.

"The Starpool project embodies years of meticulous research and planning, aimed at fulfilling the growing demand for satellite-enabled services. Its multifunctionality does not compromise performance; rather, it enhances the efficiency and scope of our operations," Zhang explained. This integrative approach facilitates a wide range of applications, from infrastructure monitoring to environmental protection and disaster relief, underscoring Starpool's potential to redefine satellite services.

Ellipspace has already demonstrated Starpool's value in the electric power sector, with plans to extend its partnerships across various industries. The company's contributions extend globally, with significant collaborations under the Belt and Road Initiative, further solidifying its role in international satellite research and data application sectors.

Founded by former senior planners of China's manned space program, Di and Zhang leverage their extensive experience in space exploration to propel Ellipspace towards becoming a leader in satellite technology and services.
