The European Space Agency (ESA) has chosen Atheras Analytics SAS, based in Paris, for a significant 12-month project focused on the creation of an advanced Ground Segment Dimensioning Tool. This tool is designed to optimize the operation and analysis of satellite constellations, which may comprise networks in varying orbits, all equipped with the capability for inter-satellite communication. It promises to enhance ground segment decision-making through detailed trade-off analysis, performance assessment, and operational concept evaluation for diverse satellite constellations.
With the increasing demand for satellite communication throughput and performance across ESA's member states, the importance of satellite technology continues to grow. It plays a crucial role in connecting government entities with citizens and bolstering military and defense strategies.
The adoption of satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) is expanding, promising more accessible, low-latency, and efficient communication solutions. The AI-driven tools developed by Atheras Analytics will be instrumental in validating ground segment designs for governmental applications.
Daniel Pantelis Arapoglou, Telecommunications System Engineer at ESA, praised Atheras Analytics' technology for its consistency in satellite network service. "The software tools, tailored to our specific requirements, will be critical in assessing the performance of design proposals, a key component in establishing mission-critical connectivity for our Member States," Arapoglou remarked.
James Youdale, President of Atheras Analytics SAS, reflected on the significance of the ESA contract, emphasizing the vital role of their technology in the success of satellite constellations.
"Our solutions will decisively influence the development of Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) networks by assessing network design viability and performance. We are excited to collaborate with ESA and its partners," Youdale stated.
