Emnify, a supplier of cloud-native IoT connectivity solutions, has officially launched the SuperNetwork SatPlus, marking the introduction of the first-ever converged cellular and satellite IoT connectivity available through a single emnify IoT eSIM. This groundbreaking offering is a part of the emnify SuperNetwork, a premier service in IoT cellular connectivity that boasts multi-network coverage across more than 180 nations globally.
The SuperNetwork SatPlus package ingeniously merges emnify's specialized cellular access with Skylo's non-terrestrial network (NTN) satellite services. This fusion enables IoT device manufacturers, OEMs, and solution providers to enhance their offerings with seamless satellite connectivity as a backup for devices when they move out of cellular range or get disconnected. Such a feature is pivotal for a vast array of applications including asset tracking, fleet management, agriculture, and safety and security systems in buildings, ensuring uninterrupted data connectivity even in the remotest locations.
Operational Mechanics of SuperNetwork SatPlus
Available in select European nations and the USA, the SuperNetwork SatPlus provides an initial 10MB of cellular connectivity, supplemented with options for 10, 30, or 60 satellite messages per month. This setup guarantees continuous, ubiquitous IoT connectivity through smooth transitions to satellite networks as devices exit cellular coverage areas. This converged solution caters to clients needing robust availability and a failover strategy to ensure the constant transmission of critical data, such as the location of valuable assets.
The integration of cellular and satellite access through a single eSIM, unified management platform, and singular radio module not only elevates the customer experience but also significantly reduces hardware and connectivity costs by eliminating the operational complexities tied to integrating satellite connectivity.
Frank Stoecker, CEO and Co-Founder of emnify, expressed enthusiasm about being the first to offer this enhanced global connectivity level, addressing operational interruptions faced by businesses due to inadequate terrestrial network infrastructure. Similarly, Tarun Gupta, CPO and Co-Founder of Skylo, highlighted the benefits of combining satellite and cellular connectivity into a single service, enhancing IoT connectivity reliability while simplifying its complexity.
Collaborations and Hardware Compatibility
Emnify has partnered with leading hardware providers like Murata and Sony Semiconductor Israel to ensure SatPlus is compatible with top-tier, affordable hardware modules. These partnerships aim to facilitate global coverage and uptime for IoT devices across various use cases. The collaboration introduces devices like the Sony ALT1250 chipset and Murata's Type 1SC radio module, both designed for cellular IoT applications, emphasizing battery life, compact size, and global connectivity.
The SuperNetwork SatPlus, set to be generally available in June 2024, represents a significant leap forward in IoT connectivity, offering unprecedented levels of service and coverage. Interested customers can find more information on how to integrate this innovative service into their IoT solutions, setting a new standard in global IoT connectivity.
