In a significant move to bolster its growth trajectory, Edinburgh-based Earth Blox, a prominent player in the nature and climate tech sector, has recently announced the doubling of its customer base over the past six months. This surge in clientele is attributed to the increasing demand from the finance industry and carbon markets for no-code access to extensive geospatial data, a crucial tool in accelerating reporting and enhancing impacts on climate and nature for site-based assets globally.
The company, in anticipation of further growth, has strategically appointed Katie Critchlow, a veteran in green business growth and innovation for impact, as a non-executive director on its board. Critchlow, with her two-decade-long experience, has a prolific background, having served in c-suite positions at several leading green startups. Her most recent tenure as CEO of NatureMetrics marked a period of substantial growth, expanding the company's reach by tenfold.
Critchlow's diverse portfolio includes senior leadership roles at M&S, WWF, and PwC, along with advisory roles to key figures such as Sir Ed Davey, former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. She has been instrumental in driving green business innovation and was a founding member of the advisory council for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Sustainable Finance.
Reflecting on her new role, Critchlow remarked, "This is an exciting time to join Earth Blox. When it comes to nature, many institutions have been paralyzed by the idea that there is no data or overwhelmed by how difficult it is to get hold of and analyze." She emphasized the value Earth Blox brings, stating, "The Earth Blox solution removes these barriers to action. It puts petabytes of carbon, nature, and other spatial data into the hands of the people within financial institutions and corporations to accelerate the move towards reporting and performance improvement on nature, climate."
Earth Blox's core offering is a SaaS technology that empowers companies and organizations to measure climate and nature risk for all their economic assets and facilities worldwide. Utilizing satellite imagery analytics, this technology facilitates the reporting on climate and biodiversity impacts, risks, and opportunities for millions of assets efficiently and with ease. To date, Earth Blox's analytics have been applied to one trillion hectares across 177 countries, demonstrating its widespread applicability and scope.
Dr. Genevieve Patenaude, CEO of Earth Blox, highlighted the urgent need for their technology in the current environmental context. "As we race to meet net zero, our customers are facing a barrage of new regulations and environmental reporting standards, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the EU Deforestation Regulation," she stated. Patenaude underscored the speed and transparency offered by geospatial data in reporting on remote assets and project sites. "The modular, customizable, and cloud capabilities of Earth Blox are enabling sustainability teams to access the data they need to make decisions and report to their stakeholders in record time," she added.
The addition of Critchlow to Earth Blox's board is a testament to the company's commitment to scaling its impact-driven startup. Patenaude expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "We are delighted that Katie is joining our board, bringing with her a wealth of experience in sustainability, nature, and scaling impact-driven startups that will be invaluable as we continue to develop solutions for our customers and enter this next phase of growth for Earth Blox."
Recently, Earth Blox also announced its launch on the Google Cloud Marketplace, cementing its position as a technology and sustainability partner in the Google Cloud Partner Advantage program and as an authorized Google Earth Engine trainer.
