Sidus Space, Inc. (NASDAQ: SIDU), recently marked a significant milestone in its growth trajectory by introducing an innovative Multi-Material 3D Printing Division. This new venture signifies a strategic expansion of the Company's capabilities beyond its traditional scope of hardware and satellite manufacturing, delving into the realm of advanced engineering and 3D printing services.
Utilizing the MarkForged X7 printers coupled with the novel OnyxFR-A material, Sidus Space has achieved a notable advancement in the manufacturing of structural support components. This development is prominently showcased in their LizzieSat satellite, which is scheduled for a launch on Transporter 10, targeting a no earlier than March 2024 liftoff.
The OnyxFR-A material, distinguished by its integration of Carbon Fiber (CF) layers during the 3D printing process and its fire-retardant properties, has been instrumental in surpassing the strength of traditional aluminum, while also achieving a significant reduction in weight. This development represents a substantial shift from conventional manufacturing methods, aligning with the industry's move towards more efficient and versatile production techniques.
In line with the rigorous standards required for space operations, Sidus Space conducted comprehensive outgassing tests in accordance with ASTM E595 standards. These tests are critical in the space industry, ensuring that materials do not emit harmful gases or residues in a vacuum environment, which could potentially impact spacecraft systems or instruments. The results from these tests have been impressive, demonstrating the material's compatibility with space operations.
Building upon the success of its LizzieSat project, Sidus Space is extending these advanced capabilities to a broader market. A notable aspect of this expansion is the introduction of a "digital warehouse" concept. This unique database allows for the storage of parts in a digital format, enabling customers to print manufacturer-approved parts with ease. This service is not only convenient but also highly adaptable, catering to both individual and commercial needs. Customers have the option to either have their parts printed and delivered by Sidus Space or to utilize the digital warehouse of 3D models for their own printing needs.
The Multi-Material 3D Printing Division of Sidus Space specializes in a range of composite materials. These include Nylon Onyx, Onyx FR-A, Carbon Fiber (CF), Fiberglass, and Kevlar, as well as 3D printing in PLA and TPU materials. This diverse material portfolio indicates a wide range of potential applications, extending well beyond the aerospace sector.
Carol Craig, CEO and Founder of Sidus Space, expressed enthusiasm about this new venture. "Expanding our services to include Multi-Material 3D Printing is a natural progression for Sidus Space. We are excited to offer our advanced capabilities to a wider audience, providing innovative solutions for various industries," she stated. This expansion not only underscores Sidus Space's commitment to innovation but also opens up additional revenue streams, further cementing its status as a pioneer in both the space and advanced manufacturing sectors.
