At the inaugural Spacepower Conference held in Orlando, Florida, from December 12-13, U.S. Space Force leaders outlined an ambitious vision for the future of the nation's newest military branch. The event, hosted by the Space Force Association, provided industry professionals and the public with insights into the Space Force's strategic direction and operational developments for the next decade.

Year of Progress, Era of Opportunity:
General Chance Saltzman, the U.S. Space Force Chief of Space Operations, described 2023 as a pivotal year, marking a transition from the establishment phase to the delivery of the Space Force's foundational purpose. "This year has been about substantial progress," Gen. Saltzman stated, highlighting the activation of nine new units. These units enhance capabilities across electronic warfare, missile warning, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, command and control, cyber, and space domain awareness.

A key milestone was the VICTOS NOX mission, demonstrating tactically responsive space capabilities. This mission underscored the Space Force's commitment to agility and cost-effectiveness. The establishment of U.S. Space Forces Europe and Africa, as well as U.S. Space Forces-Space, represents a significant step in strengthening strategic partnerships and integrating space forces into the joint force.

Cyber and Intel: Cornerstones of Combat:
Leaders from the Space Operations Command emphasized the integration of cyber and intelligence in every mission. The use of embedded intelligence detachments and advanced analysis tools provides Guardians, the Space Force personnel, with real-time insights and decision-making advantages. Moreover, cyber defense and offense capabilities are crucial for protecting space missions and deterring adversaries.

Partnerships: Essential for Global Security:
Representatives from the Space Force's component commands discussed the importance of international collaboration. Building strong partnerships with allies is viewed as critical for maintaining space domain dominance and deterring potential threats. The collective sharing of expertise and resources is key to ensuring space readiness and a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Vision for 2030 - Adaptability and Curiosity:
A panel of senior leaders projected a future for the space domain characterized by dynamism and uncertainty. To remain at the forefront, the Space Force is prioritizing adaptability, speed, and continuous innovation. Collaboration with industry partners and allies is essential for developing and deploying next-generation space capabilities. Additionally, fostering curiosity and imagination is vital for Guardians to anticipate and navigate the evolving space landscape.

CMSSF Bentivegna: Building the Guardians of Tomorrow:
Chief Master Sgt. of the Space Force John F. Bentivegna focused on the character and passion required in civilian candidates aspiring to enlist in the Space Force. He seeks individuals with a genuine enthusiasm for space and service. The Space Force offers tailored training in specialized areas like intelligence operations, cyber operations, and space operations.

Bentivegna also highlighted the Guardian Spirit, referencing the service's inaugural Guardian Arena. This competition, where teams of Guardians engaged in physical fitness and problem-solving challenges, exemplifies the service's ethos of collaboration, innovation, and connection. He encouraged Guardians to embody this spirit not only at events like the Guardian Arena but in their work centers and lives. In concluding, Bentivegna urged Guardians to share their experiences and the service's vision with stakeholders, including industry partners, communities, Congress, and the American people.

This conference marks a significant moment for the Space Force, laying out a roadmap for the future and cementing its role in national and global security. The emphasis on adaptability, collaboration, and innovation aligns with the challenges of a rapidly evolving space domain, setting the stage for the Space Force's endeavors in the coming decade.
