In a strategic alliance aimed at bolstering emergency communications and disaster recovery efforts, Tekniam, a US-based company specializing in emergency connectivity solutions, is joining forces with Rivada Space Networks to use the company's OuterNET system to create a resilient and swiftly deployable network in the face of catastrophic events.

Natural and man-made disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, or conflicts often result in the destruction of telecommunications infrastructure. Power outages can disrupt vital communication channels, including microwave towers, fiber optic networks, and routers, leading to extended downtime for repairs. This critical downtime can last for days, weeks, or even months. During these times, first responders, aid organizations, and emergency personnel require reliable and swift communication capabilities to navigate rapidly changing conditions. Even when infrastructure remains intact, existing communication systems are frequently overwhelmed by a surge in users.

In disaster scenarios, time is of the essence. Tekniam's Remote Universal Communication System (RUCS) comes to the rescue as a compact, easily transportable, and rapidly deployable emergency wireless network solution. Designed to provide essential connectivity for swift and secure communications, RUCS ensures that relief personnel can stay connected, and businesses can resume operations before traditional internet services are restored.

Rivada's global low-latency point-to-point connectivity network, known as the "OuterNET," boasts a unique next-generation architecture featuring inter-satellite laser links and advanced onboard processing capabilities. This innovative approach creates an optical mesh network in space, allowing data to stay in space from its point of origin to its destination. The result is an ultra-secure satellite network with pole-to-pole coverage, offering significantly lower latencies than terrestrial fiber over long distances. By routing traffic on a physically separated network, the OuterNET provides an added layer of security for organizations that need to securely share data across widely distributed sites.

Tekniam plans to harness the power of the OuterNET, where Rivada's secure, high-speed, and reliable optical satellite network will be accessible from anywhere on Earth. This ensures that emergency communications can be established and operational within minutes. The compact RUCS terminal creates a hot-spot, requiring only a clear line of sight to the satellite and precise dish alignment. Additionally, the equipment can be hand-carried to various locations and powered by solar energy for maximum flexibility and efficiency.

The OuterNET is ideally suited for the low-latency and secure connectivity required to support disaster recovery efforts. When conventional networks go offline, critical functions such as credit card payments, business-to-customer communications, and access to cloud data are disrupted until connections are restored. By utilizing Rivada's OuterNET, Tekniam can offer an emergency network that enables businesses to swiftly recover and prevent major interruptions.

Andrew Heaton, CEO of Tekniam, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, "Tekniam's RUCS is a cutting-edge last-mile solution for emergency disaster response, military operations, and business recovery. We are thrilled to leverage Rivada's next-generation satellite connectivity to elevate our service to new heights. The OuterNET is a fully interconnected orbital network that essentially serves as our private space network, capable of routing traffic at gigabit speeds from one satellite to another without the need for an Earth-based gateway. This is crucial not only for speed and security but also for coverage."

Declan Ganley, CEO of Rivada Space Networks, also expressed enthusiasm about supporting Tekniam's Remote Universal Communication System (RUCS). Rivada Networks has a track record of providing award-winning emergency communication services in the US, serving customers like the National Guard and leading police forces.

With the introduction of the OuterNET, a groundbreaking LEO constellation, satellite capabilities are evolving beyond their traditional role as gap-fillers. The fully interconnected space network, independent of terrestrial infrastructure, is rapidly becoming the preferred choice for resilient and secure communications.

Rivada's OuterNET promises to address essential connectivity and networking challenges while opening up new avenues for global business communications. The first satellite launch is scheduled for 2025, with global service set to commence in 2026.
