LeoLabs, a commercial provider of Space Traffic Management (STM), Space Situational Awareness (SSA), and Space Domain Awareness (SDA) services, has announced a pivotal partnership with Aalyria, a front-runner in advanced software-defined and optical networking communications. This collaboration aims to tackle the mounting challenges in space awareness for intricate communications networks that interconnect land, sea, air, and space.
The partnership agreement signifies a strategic alliance between the two companies, leveraging their respective expertise in space safety and network orchestration. This collaboration embarks on a journey to address contract opportunities, including projects with the United States Department of Defense, underscoring the partnership's significance in national security and defense communications.
Dan Ceperley, the CEO of LeoLabs, emphasized the critical nature of communications infrastructure, which increasingly spans multiple domains, including space. "Communications infrastructure is critical to our daily lives and increasingly linked across multiple domains, including space," Ceperley stated. He expressed pride in partnering with Aalyria to confront the challenges faced by both commercial and government-owned communications networks. By integrating LeoLabs' space safety services with Aalyria's network orchestration solutions, the goal is to secure the burgeoning hybrid communication networks in today's complex, crowded, and contentious space domain.
Echoing this sentiment, Chris Taylor, CEO of Aalyria, highlighted the future of communications as dynamic, hybrid networks capable of delivering high-speed, secure, and reliable connectivity everywhere, at all times. "The future of communications are dynamic, hybrid networks that can deliver high-speed, secure, and reliable connectivity anywhere and anytime," Taylor remarked. He expressed excitement about the collaboration with LeoLabs in realizing this vision.
A significant aspect of this partnership involves Aalyria integrating LeoLabs' expansive commercially owned orbital database into Spacetime, Aalyria's software platform. This platform orchestrates networks comprising ground stations, aircraft, satellites, ships, and urban meshes. For Aalyria, LeoLabs will act as a reliable "source of truth," modeling the locations of objects in low Earth orbit (LEO) for effective mission planning and operations. This integration is vital for customers to maintain and secure their communications networks, which may face interference from other objects in orbit.
By combining LeoLabs' operational safety data and services with Aalyria's network solutions, operators will gain a unified access point for real-time information and analysis, crucial for critical decision-making. This partnership caters to the growing need for interoperability among legacy, hybrid space, 5G NTN, and FutureG network architectures.
LeoLabs' expertise in tracking satellites and debris in LEO, coupled with their global network of radar stations, complements Aalyria's proficiency in managing complex, multi-faceted networks. This synergy between LeoLabs' space safety services and Aalyria's network orchestration solutions is poised to offer a robust framework for maintaining and securing communication networks reliant on space-based infrastructure.
