Macao has initiated a series of public activities aimed at spreading knowledge about China's space, marine, and polar explorations, reflecting a growing interest in these advanced scientific fields within the region. The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, in collaboration with the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR and the China National Space Administration (CNSA), has organized the Science and Technology Serial Activities in Macao.

This 12-day event, which started on Tuesday, features the Second Macao Space Development Forum, a thematic exhibition at the Macao Science Center, and several seminars and lectures at local schools. These activities are designed to engage the public and especially the youth, highlighting the latest advancements in space technology and exploration.

A standout aspect of the event is the display of lunar samples retrieved by China's Chang'e 5 robotic mission in December 2020. This marks the first time lunar samples have been brought to Macao for public viewing, a milestone in bringing space exploration closer to the people. The exhibition also showcases various Chinese carrier rockets, spacecraft, ships, and submersibles, providing a comprehensive overview of China's capabilities in space and marine technology.

At the opening ceremony, Li Guoping, chief engineer at the CNSA, emphasized the mainland's commitment to sharing China's accomplishments in space, marine, and polar explorations with the people of Macao. He expressed hope for increased participation from Macao researchers and for the region's youth to be inspired by these achievements.

Tai Kin Ip, director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau of the Macao SAR, highlighted the significance of the activities in fostering close cooperation between Macao and the mainland in science and technology research, academic exchange, and public education. He also noted the support from both the Macao government and the space administration in furthering scientific and technological advances, training more researchers, and engaging in more international cooperation projects.

These activities in Macao are part of a broader effort to integrate various Chinese regions into the national scientific advancement narrative. Through forums, exhibitions, and educational programs, Macao is contributing to the dissemination of knowledge about space exploration and its benefits, thereby fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of these scientific endeavors among its residents. This initiative also underlines the importance of public education and awareness in promoting science and technology, particularly among young people, who are the future of these rapidly evolving fields.
