Fugro and GomSpace announced a cooperation around the SpaceStarTM product in 2020. Since then, the first SpaceStar systems have gained flight heritage and proven a stunning performance: Real time, sub-decimetre absolute positioning on board a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite without additional ground-infrastructure for the satellite operator.
SpaceStar relies on GomSpace's Software Defined Radio (SDR) with Fugro's software utilizing real-time orbit and clock corrections from geostationary (GEO) satellites.
The SDRs are delivered by GomSpace with the Fugro SpaceStar software pre-installed, and the customer signs a service agreement with Fugro to use the system in space.
GomSpace has recently received an additional product order from a well-known and returning customer that will use the SpaceStar system on multiple satellites.

SpaceStar provides sub-decimetre absolute positioning and nanosecond-level timing, on board the satellite, in real-time, and without additional ground-infrastructure. A truly unique capability that can be instrumental in advanced missions involving rendezvous and docking or precise formation flying.
