Arctic Space Technologies, an eco-friendly and innovative provider of ground segments, and OneWeb, a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications firm, have made significant progress on the OneWeb Satellite Network Portal (SNP). Located at the Arctic Space Technologies' Space Center in Pitea, the SNP is a massive satellite ground station installation.

Following a bilateral agreement in December 2022, the two companies have finalized detailed design work and secured all necessary approvals for the SNP construction. The agreement specifies the installation of 27 satellite tracking antenna systems, which are slated to be operational by Q3 2023.

The SNP is set to enhance connectivity for a variety of industries, such as maritime and aviation. It will satisfy network demands and provide 4G and 5G backhaul solutions.

OneWeb's expansion in Northern Sweden illustrates the positive impacts of substantial investments into sustainable energy in the region. The collaborative efforts of OneWeb satellites, the zero-carbon Arctic Space Center for Ground Station operations, and the EcoDataCenter used for data processing could potentially transform this initiative into one of the most ecologically responsible projects in the sector.

Stephen Graham, OneWeb Director for SNP Site Management, stated: "Our partnership with Arctic Space Technologies in constructing a satellite network portal in Northern Sweden is pivotal... Our expansion into the Swedish market has been influenced by the benefits of working with strong local partners and the technological and sustainability credentials of the Arctic Space Center."

Benjamin Fischer, CEO of Arctic Space Technologies, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: "We are pleased to share the benefits of northern Sweden with partners like OneWeb... In addition, we are rapidly expanding our support for satellite constellations worldwide, and with the trust of companies like OneWeb, we continue to build momentum and innovate the market to introduce new standards for satellite data processing."

Arctic Space Technologies and OneWeb are committed to closing the digital divide with sustainable, innovative solutions. The Arctic Space Center, operational since 2021, is fast becoming one of Sweden's largest satellite communications facilities. Currently, Arctic Space Technologies is swiftly growing in terms of workforce, facilities, services, and customer base.

"Operating from Northern Sweden's coastal region has proven advantageous from an environmental perspective, and also in terms of lower maintenance and operations costs, exceptional fiber connectivity, a milder climate, employee retention, and seamless satellite coverage extending from the Arctic to Europe and North Africa. It's only logical to extend these benefits to partners like OneWeb," added Fischer.
