Kongsberg NanoAvionics (NanoAvionics), a small satellite mission integrator and bus manufacturer, has recently opened its manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing (MAIT) facility in Vilnius, Lithuania.

This expansion to the company's existing facilities in Lithuania (HQ), the UK, and the USA has doubled its satellite production capacity, allowing it to meet the growing demands for satellite constellations and larger satellites from commercial, civil, and governmental organizations.

By putting all the necessary production, testing, and mission operations infrastructure under one roof, the company is able to streamline its processes, making it more efficient. The facility also provides additional workspace and supports the company's goal of growing its global workforce of 250 employees, with plans to hire over 100 people across all its offices this year alone.

The new facility, located next door to the company's headquarters, covers 1,230 square meters and includes mechanical laboratories, thermal vacuum chambers, thermal bake-out chambers, software development, and vibration test equipment.

In addition to manufacturing its 6U, 12U, 16U nanosatellite buses and its ESPA-class microsatellite bus range, which can weigh up to 220kg, it is also the company's prime location for developing new products.

According to Vytenis J. Buzas, the founder and CEO of NanoAvionics, the expansion of the facility puts the company in a position to develop new and cost-efficient propositions for small satellite constellations.

He also notes that the facility was built on the knowledge and experience gained from manufacturing nearly 2,000 subsystems for over 120 satellite missions globally. The location of the facility, situated in a district known for its cluster of technological companies and science institutions, is also ideal for attracting top talent.

The facility also houses NanoAvionics's constellation operations center, from which the company controls and manages all satellite operations on behalf of its customers. The expansion gives the company the potential to expand the facility to 2,000 square meters in the future.
