OneWeb, the low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications company, and Leonardo DRS, a leading innovator in communications, defense, and security, have announced a new partnership to jointly offer LEO service for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).
Supported by a global network of gateways and user terminals, OneWeb's global connectivity platform will provide high-bandwidth and low-latency connectivity to expand Leonardo DRS' state-of-the-art information and technology solution systems, products and technologies to support military and government markets. The partnership will enable expanded connectivity to offer versatile, agile, and capable U.S. government mission support throughout the United States and overseas.
OneWeb and DRS Leonardo's partnership will benefit DoD naval and maritime systems, ground combat mission command and network computing, global satellite communications and network infrastructure, avionics systems, and intelligence and security solutions. Utilizing the power of OneWeb's network, Leonardo DRS can augment its existing delivery of end-to-end Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions that are reliable, resilient, and secure by adding low latency service.
Leonardo DRS has been providing broadband services and enterprise IT solutions for close to 20 years. The company specializes in providing mission-critical solutions that meet complex communications requirements. These offerings include multi-domain information systems, network operations, cybersecurity operations, and resilient global telecommunications that integrate secure and reliable backhaul terrestrial networks and cutting-edge satellite service. The company's key offering, the Leonardo DRS ICT Ecosystem, provides fully integrated, turn-key information technology and global communication solutions tailored to customers' current and future requirements, so they can focus on their missions.
Dylan Browne, OneWeb's Head of Government Services, said: "OneWeb is thrilled to join forces with Leonardo DRS to support its technological innovations and integrated products, ultimately benefiting our national security and intelligence. David Fields, Leonardo's Vice President and General Manger, commented: "Leonardo DRS is recognized in the industry for providing best value mission-critical global communications by combining the strengths of top satellite operators, terrestrial transport providers, and state-of-the-art technology. We are excited to add OneWeb's LEO capability to the Leonardo DRS ICT Ecosystem because it reinforces our commitment of providing best value solutions to our customers.
"Resiliency is a key attribute of our ICT Ecosystem and we achieve this by integrating multi-band, multi-orbit satellite services with our geographically diverse and redundant terrestrial network that is secured to U.S. government and military RMF standards. By adding the OneWeb LEO service, we increase resiliency in the space segment of the Leonardo DRS ICT Ecosystem."
