SatRev reports that its PW6U Earth observation nanosatellite has completed initial commissioning steps after launch on SpaceX's Transporter 15 rideshare mission, with the first link from orbit confirming that power, communications and basic onboard functions are operating as intended.
PW6U is a 6U-class platform built in Wroclaw that extends SatRev's smallsat line into a new generation of spacecraft designed for multispectral imaging and in-orbit data processing. The satellite's optical payload is designed to capture RGB and near-infrared data at medium ground resolution of about 5.8 meters from roughly 500 kilometers altitude, allowing repeat imaging of the same areas for change detection over time.
Key subsystems on PW6U, including communications, power management and the onboard computer, are derived from SatRev's in-house smallsat platform and are intended to support autonomous data handling and edge processing. The spacecraft architecture leaves room for hosted payloads, enabling additional instruments or experimental hardware to share the bus on future missions that follow the same design.
Data from PW6U is expected to support customers in agriculture, forestry, energy and transport by providing regular imaging of fields, forests, power corridors and other critical facilities. Multispectral imagery in the visible and near-infrared bands can be used to track crop condition, estimate biomass, monitor forest health and identify anomalies such as flooding, drought stress or vegetation loss along infrastructure routes.
The mission adds another commercial asset to SatRev's growing Earth observation constellation, which is being built to deliver frequent, medium-resolution coverage for institutional and private-sector users. PW6U follows earlier satellites in the company's portfolio and is part of a broader plan to scale to a larger network of orbiting sensors that can support near real-time monitoring services.
