EUMETSAT operates a fleet of ten Earth Observation satellites in Low Earth and geostationary orbits and is preparing for the launch of five next generation satellites in the period 2020-2025.
In the EUMETSAT matrix organisation, the Technical and Scientific Support (TSS) department provides support to the development and operations of EUMETSAT satellite systems, in particular ground systems.
Within the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area (DPSA) of the System Engineering and Projects (SEP) Division, the Data Processing Verification and Validation Team Leader leads technical support to the verification and validation of Data Processing systems, applications and services, across their lifecycle, including procurements of industrial support.

Manage the V&V team of the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area;

Support the definition, planning, scheduling and execution of V&V activities for data processing systems of different satellite systems under development by EUMETSAT, in close coordination with the system development teams;

Define, plan, schedule and lead the execution of V&V activities for planned evolutions of operational data processing systems;

Lead/coordinate the implementation of V&V activities and the execution of tests, including preparation, coordination and chairing of Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) and Test Review Board meetings (TRBs);

Lead the maintenance and evolution of test environments and tools supporting V&V of data processing system, including automated verification environments, procurement of new tools and procurement and management of industrial support services;

Identify and manage risks related to data processing V&V activities;

Support the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area Manager in the preparation of annual budgets, assessment of V&V skills and resources and the definition of long term plans and road maps.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 5,936 per month (net of internal tax) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year. A university degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software or Systems Engineering or another relevant discipline.
In addition it would be an advantage to be certified in one of the recognised bodies for S/W testing (e.g. International Software Testing Qualifications Board -ISTQB®)

Successful experience in the Verification &Validation (V&V) of data processing systems, including identification of necessary test data and tools, optimised use of automated testing for system testing, software testing, unit testing, software debugging and profiling (relevant certification e.g. ISTQB is desirable);

Proven experience in engineering of Data Processing systems following well established processes, covering the full development lifecycle and relevant technical standards (e.g. ECSS, CCSDS, OGC);

Proven experience in the management/coordination of engineering teams and industrial contracts and maintaining business critical skills;

Demonstrable knowledge of software development lifecycles and associated change control processes;

Ability to manage complex tasks with minimum supervision, including planning and prioritisation of activities, allocation and coordination of resources (including budget), monitoring and reporting;

Good interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to apply these to a team environment while working within a matrix structure;
