THE NEXT GENERATION OF MARITIME COMMUNICATIONS

AAC Clyde Space AB, SAAB AB and ORBCOMM Inc. have today announced the development of the next generation of space based VDES system, marking the beginning of a new era in maritime communications. AAC Clyde Space AB will receive 17.0 MSEK in total,  of which 12.2 MSEK is in the form of a grant from the Swedish Transport Administration, to finance the building, launch and commissioning of the first satellite in the project. This is intended to be the first satellite of a future constellation to provide a VDES service.

Alphasat

Alphasat is a European telecommunications satellite designed with the Alphabus platform.

Inmarsat awarded a contract to EADS Astrium Satellites for a first use of the platform Alphabus. The satellite is named Alphasat I-XL, and will augment Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service. The satellite will support a new generation of mobile technologies and enable communications across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

It was launched on 25 July 2013. At launch date it was one of the biggest geostationary telecom satellites.

SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation

SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation is a Japanese direct broadcast satellite television company that operates the SKY PerfecTV! satellite network (including the JCSat satellites, the SuperBird satellites, the Horizons satellites).

SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation is the result of the merger of JSAT Corporation, SKY Perfect Communications, Inc., and Space Communications Corporation in October 2008. It is the core operating company of the SKY Perfect JSAT Group.

SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation is built on the strengths available from a hybrid business, operating both a stable space & satellite business and a proven, high-growth multi-channel pay TV business under one roof, while at the same time building services and  capacity to compete in the satellite communications market.

AEHF satellite

Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) is a series of communications satellites operated by the United States Air Force Air Force Space Command.

The spacecraft is used to relay secure communications for the Armed Forces of the United States, the British Armed Forces, the Canadian Forces and the military of the Netherlands. The system consist of six spacecraft in geostationary orbits, of which two have been launched. AEHF is designed to replace the older Milstar system and will operate at 44 GHz Uplink (EHF band) and 20 GHz Downlink (SHF band).

Space Communication Ltd (Spacecom)

Spacecom (Space Communication ltd), is a communications satellite operator in the Middle East, European Union and North America.

Spacecom is headquartered in the city of Ramat Gan, Israel. Spacecom operates the AMOS satellite family. Two satellites are at orbital position 4° West – AMOS 2 and AMOS 3.

Sirius (satellites)

[Not to be confused with Sirius Satellite Radio

The Sirius satellites is a constellation of communications satellites operated at 5°E in geostationary orbit by SES, owner and operator of the Astra satellites.

They broadcast digital satellite television to the countries of Scandinavia, Baltic states, eastern Europe and Africa, including the Viasat pay TV system, along with several pay TV packages for eastern Europe, the TopTV package for Africa, a number of Ukrainian channels and the national Latvian and Lithuanian channel service free-to-air.

The Sirius satellites are not the satellites used for the American Sirius Satellite Radio service, whose satellites are named Radiosat.

APT Satellite Holdings Ltd

Operator of the Apstar series of communications satellites in the Asia Pacific region, providing satellite services, including broadband media and television services.

APT launched its first satellite, APSTAR-1, in 1994.

APSTAR-V and APSTAR-VI is the new generation (as of Nov. 2012) of high-power and high-reliability communication satellites.

Yamal  is a communication satellite developed by Gazprom Space Systems for Russian Direct-To-Home television.

The first satellite of the Yamal series was launched by September 6, 1999.

Eutelsat

Eutelsat S.A. is a satellite operator, providing satellite broadcast coverage over the entire European continent, as well as the Middle East, Africa, India and significant parts of Asia and the Americas.

Eutelsat's satellites are used for broadcasting (as of Oct. 2012) 4,250 television and 1100 radio stations to over 204 million cable and satellite homes. They also serve requirements for TV contribution services, corporate networks, mobile positioning and communications, Internet backbone connectivity and broadband access for terrestrial, maritime and in-flight applications. Eutelsat is headquartered in Paris, France.
