Eutelsat

Eutelsat S.A. is a satellite operator, providing satellite broadcast coverage over the entire European continent, as well as the Middle East, Africa, India and significant parts of Asia and the Americas.

Eutelsat's satellites are used for broadcasting (as of Oct. 2012) 4,250 television and 1100 radio stations to over 204 million cable and satellite homes. They also serve requirements for TV contribution services, corporate networks, mobile positioning and communications, Internet backbone connectivity and broadband access for terrestrial, maritime and in-flight applications. Eutelsat is headquartered in Paris, France.

EchoStar Corporation

EchoStar Corporation is a technology company that is the owner and maintainer of the satellite fleet for closely affiliated Dish Network Corporation (satellite broadcaster).

The company also designs and manufactures set-top boxes to receive the Freeview broadcasts in the United Kingdom, as well as receivers for Bell TV in Canada. EchoStar also owns Sling Media, which designs and builds the Slingbox TV streaming device, and satellite internet provider Hughes Communications. EchoStar was formerly the parent company of Dish Network until the unit was spun off in December 2007.

MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn.

MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd., formerly Binariang Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd is a Malaysian communications satellite operator, which owns and operates the MEASAT (Malaysia East Asia Satellite) spacecraft.

As of 2006, the MEASAT satellite network consists of three geostationary satellites designed and built by Boeing Satellite Systems. MEASAT-1 and MEASAT-2 were launched in 1996 and MEASAT-3 in 2006.

RapidEye AG

RapidEye AG was a German geospatial information provider focused on assisting in management decision-making through services based on their own Earth observation imagery. The company owns a five satellite constellation producing 5 meter resolution imagery that was designed and implemented by MacDonald Dettwiler (MDA) of Richmond, Canada. Originally located in Munich, the company relocated 60 km southwest of Berlin to Brandenburg an der Havel in 2004.

Applications
RapidEye provides geospatial information-based management solutions to the following industries: agriculture, forestry, environment, spatial solutions.

Satellites
Five Identical Satellites: Built by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (SSTL) of Guildford, subcontracted by MacDonald Dettwiler (MDA). Each satellite is based on an evolution of the flight-proven SSTL-100 bus, and measures less than one cubic meter and weighs 150 kg (bus + payload).

 

On November 6, 2013 RapidEye has officially changed its name to BlackBridge.

SPOT Image

Spot Image is a French public limited company created in 1982 by the French Space Agency, Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), the IGN, and Space Manufacturers (Matra, Alcatel, SSC, etc.). It is now (year 2012) a subsidiary of EADS Astrium (99%).

The company is the commercial operator for the SPOT Earth observation satellites.

Spot Image is a worldwide distributor of products and services using imagery from Earth observation satellites and works through a network of subsidiaries, local offices (Australia, Brazil, China, United States, Japan, Peru, Singapore), and partners. The goal is to provide on-the-spot service with worldwide availability.
Spot Image works with a network of more than 30 direct receiving stations handling images acquired by the SPOT satellites.

GeoEye Inc.

GeoEye Inc. (formerly Orbital Imaging Corporation or ORBIMAGE) is a commercial satellite imagery company based in Herndon, Virginia, USA.

GeoEye operates its own fleet of Earth observation satellites, which provide visible and near-infrared images of land and sea at resolutions below 1 m.

GeoEye provides 253,000,000 square kilometres of satellite map images to Microsoft and Yahoo! search engines. Google has exclusive online mapping use of the new GeoEye-1 satellite. It is a major supplier to the USA National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

GeoEye's headquarters are in Herndon, Virginia. Satellite Operations are conducted in Herndon, Virginia and in Thornton, Colorado. The location in Saint Louis, Missouri provides additional image processing. There are multiple ground stations located worldwide.
GeoEye's primary competitors are DigitalGlobe and Spot Image.

The company was founded in 1992 as a division of Orbital Sciences Corporation in the wake of the 1992 Land Remote Sensing Policy Act which permitted private companies to enter the satellite imaging business. The division was spun off in 1997. It changed its name to GeoEye in 2006 after acquiring Denver, Colorado-based Space Imaging. Space Imaging was founded and controlled by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. Its principal asset was the IKONOS satellite.

Avanti Communications

Avanti Communications sells satellite data communications services to telecoms companies which use them to supply enterprise, institutional and consumer users.

Avanti's first satellite, called HYLAS 1, launched on 26th November 2010 and was a superfast Ka band satellite launched in Europe. Avanti's second satellite, called HYLAS 2, will launch on 2nd August 2012. It will extend Avanti's coverage to Africa, the Caucuses and the Middle East. HYLAS 3 will also serve Africa in 2015.

Iridium Communications Inc.

Iridium Communications Inc. is a company, based in McLean, Virginia, United States which operates the Iridium satellite constellation, a system of 66 active satellites used for worldwide voice and data communication from hand-heldsatellite phones and other transceiver units. The Iridium network is unique in that it covers the whole Earth, including poles, oceans and airways. The company derives its name from the chemical element iridium. The number of satellites projected in the early stages of planning was 77, the atomic number of iridium, evoking the metaphor of 77 electrons orbiting the nucleus.

SES - Société Européenne des Satellites

SES, Société Européenne des Satellites, is a global satellite owner and operator, founded in 1985, and based in Betzdorf, Luxembourg. 

SES is the world’s second-largest telecommunications satellite operator by revenue and operates a fleet of 50 geostationary satellites able to reach 99% of the World’s population. These satellites provide satellite communication services to businesses and government agencies, and broadcast TV and radio channels to audiences worldwide. As of the end of 2011 SES satellites carry over 5,200 TV channels (including over 1200 in high definition), more than 1000 radio stations, and 44 direct-to-home(DTH) platforms across the world.
